Barber Shop

Rafael’s Barbers was established in 1967 by Rafael Spadaro in the Town of Poughkeepsie. Then located in the Dutchess Center on Route 44, the barber shop was a family business with both Rafael and his son, Ralph as barbers. Since then, Ralph has taken over for his father and the barber shop continues to be a pillar of the greater Poughkeepsie community as one of the longest operating barber shops in the area.

In the late 1980’s, Heinz Grosse joined the team to cutting hair alongside Ralph until 2020. With over a fifty years worth of experience, Ralph is one of the most experienced barbers in the Hudson Valley. Experienced and professional, he’s never met a head of hair or beard he can’t tame!

Rafael’s is an ‘old school’ barber shop. Simple, straight forward and unassuming. It’s not a high-end hair salon where you’re going to be charged for the reputation of the person who is cutting your hair. Likewise, it’s not a new, hipster hot spot full of tattoos, waxed mustaches and vests. Nope, Rafael’s Barbers has been around long before hipsters were cool. What you will find at Rafael’s are friendly, professional barbers in a relaxed, unpretentious setting for the everyday man. Ralph is a master of his craft. He cuts each and every customer’s hair with the utmost care and treat them as friends. Newspapers and magazines for you to read while you wait (sorry, no wifi here) and good conversations about sports, how to fix your golf swing, gambling and who hit the trifecta in the early race at Belmont.

Today, the shop is located at 20 Fowler Avenue in Poughkeepsie, NY. It’s a block off the Eastbound Arterial near Davies Hardware and right around the corner from Vassar College in the Arlington area of the Town of Poughkeepsie. Come on by and check us out. We’ll make you look great with a fresh cut and you might even get some good gambling advice. The former for sure, the latter, probably not so much.
